Services.

Our approach ensures that engagements are informed by facts, in real-time: we call it ‘ground truth’. We use a thoughtful and methodical layer of expertise to shape programs, combined with regular and timely reporting on emergent dynamics and trends on the ground. We focus on delivering actionable, targeted and outcome-oriented recommendations, advisory, and program-support for and implementation of stabilization activities.

SSA relies heavily on our local partners, instead of outsourcing to sub-contractors. We believe that building capacity of local researchers and organizations is the only way to break the mold on failed experiments in counter violent extremism (CVE) and peace & security engagements, and is necessary to create stable environments for partners and businesses to operate in.

  • Research & Analysis.

Research Studies. Our team has expertise in leading methodical research studies over 6-18 months, consisting of multiple rounds of qualitative and quantitative, field-based data collection in hard to reach areas. This type of research includes household surveys, focus groups and polling. These research studies unlock trends and underlying dynamics.

Situation Reporting. This service provides clients with regular or intermittent situation reports. These reports are great for conflict analysis, risk and threat assessments, and business and market intelligence. This product provides clients with up to date knowledge from our network, synthesized by our team’s expert analysis, written in cable formatting, to provide a quick read on emergent trends and activities.

  • Programming.

Stabilization. Our team has years of experience in civil-military coordination, counterinsurgency, Demobilization, Disarmament and Reintegration (DDR), Security Sector Reform (SSR), preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) and institution and capacity building work in the Caucuses, Africa and the Middle East. We bring this expertise to the field of stabilization work, where we advise and implement activities in this field by partnering with national-level government actors, security forces, law enforcement, and civil society, through a multi-sectoral approach to managing instability that is problematized by fragility and poverty. In this regard, we work flexibly, across security and development frameworks.

Community Engagement. Through our consortium with Elva Community Engagement (Elva), our team delivers informed localized conflict resolution approaches to communities in complex environments. There is a need to adapt community engagement programming to private sector partners that are operating in unstable environments. SSA applies Elva’s P/CVE toolkit to support private sector in these contexts through quick impact projects (QIP) and social engagement approaches, that allow businesses to operate confidently in tough environments.

  • Strategy & Advocacy.

Strategic Engagement. We are well placed to engage both the public and private sectors in the countries that our clients operate in. Our well positioned thought leaders use diplomacy to advocate niche sectors and identify opportunities for further engagement for your organization. Through these lynchpin relationships and networks, we can advocate and strategize how to navigate challenging work environments and reinforce strategic partnerships that are necessary for your organization to thrive.

Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL): Effective stabilization has to adapt to the realities on the ground. This requires regular analysis derived from an evidence-based approach to evaluating the effectiveness of activities and engagements. SSA’s approach to MEL is to ensure that strategic engagement by partners remains flexible and sustainable. We have in-house expertise that can manage local teams conducting both traditional M&E and complexity-aware approaches that lead on cutting edge solutions to monitoring complex aspects of strategies and projects.
